Destrehan Plantation celebrates its Spring Arts and Crafts Festival, Saturday and Sunday, March 14 & 15, 2009 on its grounds at 13034 River Road in Destrehan, Louisiana.

Artists and Craft Vendors from throughout the United States will offer a variety of wood crafts, pottery, jewelry, quilts, ceramics, prints, oil paintings, dolls, stained glass, clothing, baskets and much more. The Cajun and Creole Food Park will feature over 20 chefs preparing local dishes such as fried seafood, gumbo, jambalaya, red beans and rice and other favorites sure to please all in attendance. The antique area will feature 12 dealers inside the unique 1840's Mule Barn as well as additional vendors adjacent to the barn.

Demonstrations of period crafts, including Open Hearth Cooking and dyeing with Indigo will be featured. Children's Corner will feature activities such as pony rides and face painting. New this year is the Heritage Education Center, featuring hands-on activities for children. Tours of the plantation house by costumed tour guides will be available for an additional fee.

Live musical entertainment is included in the admission fee. The schedule includes Jude LeBlanc, from 10 a.m. to Noon on Saturday followed by Summer Breeze at 1 p.m. Sunday's schedule features Kayla Woodson and Louisiana Lightning at 10 a.m. to Noon, followed by Local Option 2 at 1 p.m.

The festival hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. both days. Admission is $7.00 for adults and teens, children 12 and under are admitted free. Directions: Take I-10 to Exit 220 (I-310). Take exit #6 to LA 48. Turn left, down 2 mile. For more information call (985) 764-9315 or 1-877-453-2095.
