Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra to join Orchestras Feeding America to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana

Wednesday, April 22 at Ochsner Swing in the Oaks at City Park

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra presents crowd favorite Ochsner Swing in the Oaks free outdoor concert at Dreyfous Meadow in City Park on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. (grounds in front of the New Orleans Museum of Art). The rain date is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the same location.

This is the second concert generously supported by Ochsner Health System as part of a three-year partnership with the LPO.

LPO’s Resident Conductor Rebecca Miller will lead the orchestra through an evening of dance favorites -- from Tchaikovsky’s Waltz from Sleeping Beauty to Shostakovich’s Gadfly Polka to Copland’s Hoe Down -- bring your picnics, family, friends, and your dancing shoes for a spectacular evening!

During this year’s concert, the LPO will participate in Orchestras Feeding America, the first national food drive by America’s symphony orchestras. In addition to the picnic dinners and drinks you bring for your own family, bring something to share with your neighbors in greater need.
The LPO’s musicians, staff members and volunteers will collect non-perishable food at the concert starting at 5 p.m. The food will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana. For information about the types of food that can be accepted go to LPOmusic.com.

To date, more than 250 orchestras have come together to combat hunger in their communities, inspired by the true story in the upcoming film The Soloist. The project is organized by the League of American Orchestras, which represents the nation’s professional, volunteer, and youth orchestras.
