Walk to Creole Tomato Fest for food, music and fun

If you’re staying with us over the next couple of days, then you’ve picked a wonderful weekend to be in New Orleans. Not only is the weather going to be perfect for taking a dip in our pool, but the 28th Annual Creole Tomato Festival is also happening just a short walk away.

Creole Tomatoes may seem like a strange thing to throw a festival around, but there’s a reason why locals celebrate this vegetable so much: they are an important element to many New Orleans classic dishes.  Unlike regular tomatoes, Creole Tomatoes grow in south Louisiana’s rich soil and subtropical climate. This gives them a bold flavor that you’re not likely to find in other regions. Local chefs use these regional tomatoes to create dishes like Shrimp Creole, or to give your po-boy that little extra flavor.  Maybe that’s why when you order Cajun and Creole dishes in other parts of the country, they just don’t taste quite the same!

The Creole Tomato Festival takes place at the French Market, which is just a short walk away from Maison Dupuy Hotel. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, you can walk over to eat delicious food from various restaurants that will set up booths, listen to local bands play, and watch some of our favorite chefs give cooking demonstrations.

Two stages will be set up: The Abita Beer Stage near Barracks Street, alongside the French Market, and the Dutch Alley Pavilion Stage at St. Philip and Decatur Streets.

This is one of the best opportunities for food lovers to sample great dishes from all around New Orleans.  So many good restaurants, many French Quarter restaurants in particular, will be set up serving Creole Tomato based dishes. It’s easy to make lunch and/or dinner out of just walking from booth to booth and making a meal a la carte.

When you’re ready for a break, you can always walk back over to our hotel, take a dip in the pool, relax in the lobby, hang out in the courtyard, grab a drink from the bar, or nap in your room.  It’s the perfect setup.

We do still have a few rooms available this weekend, so it’s not too late to plan a quick getaway.  Give us a call or reserve a room online.  We’d love to have you.
