The Greasing of the Poles?

Posted on: February 25, 2014 | Posted in: Uncategorized

No you did not read that wrong and yes it happens every year right before Mardi Gras....for the last 44 years at least.

Yes, it is on Bourbon Street but it is not what you think. The Royal Sonesta Hotel originated this long standing Carnival tradition of the greasing of the support poles as a means to deter over-zealous revelers from shimmying up to the coveted balcony space. It is so much easier to see what is going on on the streets from the balconies on Bourbon Street.

The "Greasers"  this year are Trixie Minx and three members of Fleur de Tease. Dancing in the streets will be kicked off by the New Orleans Pussyfooters and the New Orleans Saints - Saintsations! Emcee of the day will be the award winning actor and author, New Orleans native Bryan Batt. Come meet the 2014 King and Queen of Zulu - Garren and Georgette Mims.

All the festivities start at 10 am on Friday, Feb 28. Where? Bourbon Street of course. All free today.
