Jazz Fest: The First Weekend Roundup
Jazz Fest 2015 is finally here! The highly anticipated first weekend of the music festival comes with fantastic live music, food, art, and fun! To make sure you hit all of the can’t miss high points, we’ve included our weekend favorites for you.
Headliners:The first weekend kicks off with a bang. Hozier, Keith Urban and Wilco headline the opening night Friday, March 24. Then on Satuday big names like The Who, Ryan Adams, and John Legend will dazzle you with stellar performances. Then Sunday closes the weekend on a high note with Jimmy Buffet, Lady Gaga performing with Tony Bennett, and Pitbull.
Regional/Local Talent: While the big names are surely enough to draw you in, the festival has some lesser known bands will keep you grooving from the time the gates open until the sun goes does. Some of our “can’t miss favorites”: blues-rock band Tedschi Trucks Band, jazz-funk Snarky Puppy, and of course, blues-rock and Texas royalty Jimmie Vaughan.
Local talent will be represented by some of our bands too: Honey Island Swamp band, Shotgun Jazz Band, Tom McDermott, and Minimum Rage.
A New Orleans festival isn’t complete without fantastic New Orleans cuisine. With more than 27 crawfish selections, 20 shrimp dishes, and 40 dessert choices – not to mention the gumbos, soups, salads, and other delectable entrees available; bringing your appetite is a requirement!
Not only that, but some of New Orleans top culinary talents will be onsite to show off their skills and give tips and tricks!
In the Louisiana Folklife Village, master artisans create cultural treasures by using techniques passed from generation to generation. Mardi Gras Indians display intricately sewn costumes, and boat-builders showcase their talents of turning cypress tress into skiffs. Enter Congo Square through its unique gateways and experience music, art and culture originating from the African Diaspora.
