Start planning for Satchmo Summerfest 2014

Save the date: The 2014 Satchmo SummerFest is July 31 through Aug 3!  Last year, attendance reached 60,000, and it’s only getting bigger and better.

Named after New Orleans’ own Louis Armstrong, this festival features three days of great music, interesting discussions about the life of Armstrong, and seminars dedicated to the influence and history of jazz music in this city and beyond.

What’s even better is that the entire festival  - which takes place at the Louisiana Sate Museum’s Old U.S. Mint - is free and open to the public. If you love jazz, then it’s one of the best times of year to make a trip to The Big Easy.  Stages will be set up and feature brass bands and groups playing traditional and contemporary jazz (see full schedule here).  If you need a break from the sun, there will be tented areas with food and more music.  The best place to grab some great grub during the festival though is “Red Bean Alley,” where many of the city’s best restaurants will be set up.

Also happening: A traditional second line parade, traditional jazz dance lessons, and a Trumpet Tribute.

Satchmo SummerFest is also a great event families.  Fun, educational movies, exhibits and general activities will be set up for parents and kids on the second floor of the Lousiana State Museum’s Old U.S. Mint (which, by the way, is air conditioned).

We’re telling you all of this now so that you can start planning your trip!  Our hotel is close to the action, but also far enough away that you won’t have to try and fall asleep to the sounds of loud music.  When you’re not at the festival, you can cool off in our pool or grab a drink and bite to eat in our restaurant. Or just take a nap in your room, because it’s your vacation and you can do that. (That and our beds are extra comfy and inviting.)

Someone on our staff would be happy to help you reserve the perfect room if you’d like to call, or you can always reserve a room online.  Since Satchmo SummerFest is such a popular time to be in the city, we do recommend that you reserve a room now rather than later.

Let us know if we can help, and as always, feel free to reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter! We love hearing from you, and like seeing the pictures you share with us too.
