It’s a bustling weekend in New Orleans. As locals and tourists continue to Christmas shop, the city has plenty of other fun festivities—including the start of college football bowl season and a highly anticipated Saints rivalry match-up!
R+ L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Saturday, December 20
The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns take on the University of Nevada-Reno Wolf Pack at the Superdome in the R+ L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. It’s the fourth straight year for the Ragin Cajuns to compete in this growing bowl game, and it’s always a blast. Cheap Trick and Kool & the Gang will perform in Champion Square the night before the game (Friday, December 17) at 7 p.m. Plus you never know who might be at the game…anyone from Santa Claus to a Mardi Gras Indian Chief has been known make an appearance.
Pelicans vs Portland Trail Blazers Saturday, December 20
New Orleans is known for the New Orleans Saints, but the NBA Pelicans put on a great game! They host the Trail Blazers Saturday at the Smoothie King Center. Be sure to cheer on the fifth ranked Southeastern Division team. The doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets start at just $16.25, including the $3 service fee.
New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons Sunday, December 21
The Saints take on its nemesis, the Atlanta Falcons, at noon on Sunday. Whether you’re attending the game or supporting the Saints from the comfort of the French Quarter, this is a rivalry you don’t want to miss. Saints fans will be out in masses!
Caroling in Jackson Square
Caroling in Jackson Square is a time honored tradition filled with candle-lit faces joining together to celebrate the season by singing Christmas carols. The moving holiday tradition began in 1946 and continues to bring locals and tourists together. The singing begins at 6:30 p.m. Candles and sheet music are provided.
