Quan Tran: Inspirational Chef Passes Away

It’s with a heavy heart, the Maison Dupuy family says goodbye to our longtime and beloved former Sous Chef Quan Tran who recently lost a hard fought battle with stomach cancer.

Although Chef Quan was originally from Vietnam and lived in several states, including Hawaii, he found a home in New Orleans. "New Orleans has something that I can't stay away. It's the people,” Chef Quan told reporters after he was awarded Times-Picayune Chef to Watch.

He came to Maison Dupuy’s then Dominique's, ran by Dominique Macquet himself, in 1997 as line cook. Over the next dozen years, Chef Quan rose to the position directly under Macquet. Even after Macquet left Dominique’s, Chef Quan stayed to work at our Mertiage restaurant before he teamed up with Macquet once again in 2011.

Quan was truly a one-of-a-kind man. His bright personality, dedication, and hard work made Chef Quan an inspiration to everyone he met. He will be truly missed, but we’re better for having the pleasure of knowing him.

Macquet will host a public celebration of Chef Quan's life at his restaurant Saveur (4128 Magazine St.) on June 15 at 6 p.m.
